Local Finds for Father’s Day
When I wrote this post last year I went digging for options that offered contactless pickup and stocked hand sanitizer or free shipping. It’s like a deep exhale to reread and know that we are not in the same place we were at this time last year. While a lot of things have changed since this time last year, some things haven’t changed a bit, such as having the same great local businesses offering incredible goods and willing to meet you wherever your need is.
When I went to college at the University of Southern Mississippi I remember I kept hearing the word “Coastie” in reference to people from the MS Gulf Coast. As a Louisiana girl, I had never heard that before: flash forward a semester and I met my husband-to-be and the definition of a total Coastie, y’all.
He loves this place, this way of life, and I’ve found that so many of the men here do. There are such few places like this: the outdoors, the people, the businesses, they all make me so proud to live and thrive here on the Coast.
Pouring into our Community
Community is such a big piece of what makes the Gulf Coast an incredible place to live and unfortunately, so many small businesses have been impacted in the last several months. Whether you’re purchasing on behalf of your children for your husband, for your father, or father-in-law, this Father’s Day is such a great opportunity to pour back into our local community that so many of our guys love dearly.
I realize that while we live here, our fathers may not so I have also included special items that can be shipped and some non-coastal living items, too!
FOR THE TOTAL COASTIE
FOR THE FISHING DAD
If your husband loves to be outside and doesn’t have any Toadfish gear, it’s time to set him up! This brand has become popular for its non-tipping can cooler (which is a must have) but their magnetic stowaway board for fileting fish and kitchen collection are also super functional. This brand also gets bonus points for being conservationists first by replanting oyster beds with a portion of each purchase.
FOR THE OUTDOORSY DAD
Set him up with some fun gear and then head out for an outdoor activity he loves! We have mom-recommended hiking trails all along the Coast or maybe you hit the beach or his favorite fishing spot with the family!
We highly recommend the Tethered Skiff performance shirts. This line is perfect for those all-day hikes or fishing trips on the boat. It holds up to sun, sweat and saltwater… and has built in UPF 50+ UV protection.
FOR THE INDOORSY DAD
His favorite movie and takeout from his favorite local restaurant.
FOR THE BREW MASTER
Grabbing brews from Chandeleur Island Brewing Companyor Fly Llama Brewing and play tourist! Both breweries have great atmospheres for you to grab brews on tap to-go and walk down Fishbone Alley in Gulfport or take it for a sunset stroll along the beach in Biloxi!
FOR THE BOOK LOVERS
Grab a fresh read from a local bookstore and a to-go coffee for Father’s Day morning.
- Pass Books, Pass Christian
- Bay Books, Bay St. Louis
- Southern Bound Book Shop, Biloxi
- If you’d rather load him up with several books by renting from your local library, check out our library guide
FOR THE SPORTS FANATIC
How fun would it be to pick up a few Brews from Flying Llama and head to a Shucker’s game? The Shucker’s aren’t playing locally on Father’s Day but they do have a game the Sunday before and Tuesday after! Check out their page for tickets.
On Sunday, June 27, they are hosting Family Fun Day. Fun Day ticket packages, with a four-ticket minimum, include a Reserved Level seat and a voucher for a hot dog, chips, and a soda or water for $15 per person. Plus, catch on the field after the game. Fun Day tickets must be purchased at the box office.
FOR THE PROUD TRUCK OWNER

FOR THE FUNNY FATHER
If you’re wanting to keep it simple this year or you don’t know what to buy for the special guys in your life, you can never go wrong with gift cards and a very thoughtful handwritten note.
I always try to use this as a day to show my husband and Dad a little extra love and tell them the role they’ve had in my life in the last year.
