Alexa Harrison

You may have seen this mama out and about, and we are so excited to introduce you to her today in a little more detail!

Originally from Ocean Springs, Alexa Harrison grew up in Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Boston, but now calls Gulfport home, along with her husband of 8 years, Clint, and their adorable 2 year old, James “Jett” Thomas Cutrer!

“I was born in Ocean Springs. My dad’s family is from Biloxi. Mom’s family is from Massachusetts but moved here to work at Ingall’s Shipyard. Moved away with my mom when I was 5 and grew up in Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Boston. My hardworking single mom was a publicist for Walt Disney Studios so my childhood was filled with Disney swag, movie premiers, and rubbing shoulders with lots of famous people. It was a dream. I was an only child until I was 13, and now I am the oldest of 7 in our beautiful blended family.

My mom is my biggest inspiration. She was an amazing single mother while also excelling in her career. And she did both of those roles with such grace, while also having a rich social life. That’s the goal.

I graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 2014. While in school I was the Editor-in-Chief of Her Campus Magazine’s UMass chapter, as well as interned at their HQ in Boston. Post-graduation I received a certificate of business fundamentals from Harvard Business School online. Since then, I’ve taken many continuing education classes focused on communications. I’m a dedicated lifelong learner!

In regards to my work history, I started my career in advertising technology in Boston. The founders of the company I worked for, DataXu, were literally rocket scientists who wrote the NASA code that guided the Mars mission. The company was bought by Roku. I also briefly worked for a tech startup in Helsinki, Finland (my family is Finnish so this was very cool to visit Finland!) before spending the next 6 years working for an award-winning communications company, Duarte, in the Silicon Valley. While there I helped to publish books, create online courses and in-person workshops, and hosted large scale virtual and in-person events—all centered around helping people become better communicators. After the Silicon Valley bank collapse in Spring 2023 I was laid off and decided to take a step back from full-time work in favor of freelancing and spending more time with my son. The day I was laid off I started my passion project: Gather Gulf Coast.

I’m a journalist and have written for many magazines—I’m currently writing for Gulf Coast Woman Magazine and The Gulf Coast Mom! I’ve always loved researching the best places to go, documenting my adventures, and sharing them on social media. So I started posting about all my favorite places, and I figured out I love the process of creating Instagram Reels. My primary goal with Gather was to make new friends, and through our social club I’ve been able to do just that—and I’ve helped many others make new friends and business connections too, which is so rewarding. It’s been so fun and fulfilling to meet people in this way and help spread the word about all of the amazing local small businesses we have here on the Coast.

When asked what the most important thing to is, Alexa had a very simple answer: Family.

“Family is the most important thing to me. We love to travel, try new restaurants, and do all things outdoors. We recently bought a hunting/fishing camp in Perkinston where we’ve been spending all our weekends. We are so obsessed with Jett and hope to continue to expand our family.”

When asked what her best piece of advice would be for all the mamas out there:

“Don’t forget to fill up your own cup, often. Get the massage, have the girls night, go on the trip, do the things that bring you joy. You’ll be a better mom and partner for it.”
