Carla Evers

We are so excited to introduce you to Carla Evers as our Mom Feature Friday! Thanks for the opportunity to feature you!

Take it away, Carla ⬇️

“Hi, Gulf Coast Moms! My name is Carla J. Evers. I married Carlos M. Evers, the love of my life, in 1992. Together, my husband and I have six children: three sons (biological) and three daughters. We also have five grandchildren. We cherish spending time with our children and grandchildren, whether it's camping or gathering during special times of the year like holidays and birthdays. Since our children are spread out across several states, we stay connected through regular family calls. These calls allow us to make major decisions, discuss family business, and celebrate each family member’s birthday. During our meetings, we share something we are proud of about the person or reminisce about a sentimental moment we’ve enjoyed with them.

I am the only child of Jewel and Glenda Raines of Carriere, MS. My parents instilled in me a deep love for God and a strong work ethic. They poured so much love into my life that I freely share it with those around me, both in my family and at work. They taught me that love is endless and that God will open windows and pour out more love and blessings than I could ever imagine. Although I am an only child, I have been blessed with two best friends, Paula and Sonja, who keep me grounded. Additionally, I have been blessed with strong female role models in my aunts and my loving 91-year-old grandmother, Mollie Jackson. I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge our two amazing French Bulldogs, who keep us on our toes and are a joy to come home to each day. I couldn’t do what I do without the support of my incredible family.

As the Superintendent of Schools for the Pass Christian Public School District, I’m currently in my 34th year as an educator, and I cherish every moment of being a Pass Pirate. Now in my 9th year as superintendent, it still feels like the honeymoon phase. Our small community has a big heart for its children, which is reflected in our school district’s continued success. I couldn’t be prouder of the entire team for their daily efforts to ensure our students are accepted, valued, safe, and held to high standards in a nurturing environment. I’m forever grateful to the school board for its unwavering support and for entrusting me with the leadership of our district. I pray that something I say or do leaves a lasting impression on those I serve. This role is truly the crowning jewel in my treasure chest, and I love everything and everyone that makes up our amazing school district.

Over the past 21 years here on the beautiful MS Gulf Coast—our state’s front lawn—I have worked to remain service-oriented. I serve my community through involvement in various boards and organizations. I’m the immediate past president of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and I currently serve as vice president of the Mississippi Department of Education’s Accreditation Commission. I also serve on the boards of the Children’s Foundation, PREPS, and TrainTastic. In the past, I have also served on the HeadStart Policy Council, Lynn Meadows Discovery Board, and Mississippi Association of School Superintendents Board.

My family and I attend First Missionary Baptist Church of Handsboro in Gulfport, where we are under the leadership of Pastor Jeremie Turner, Sr. My husband and I love to enjoy all the Gulf Coast has to offer, from dining at local restaurants to spending time on the beach. There’s so much to enjoy!”

When asked to share one piece of advice to all the mamas out there, this is what she said:

“It is ok for you to take and make time for yourself. Find a few moments each day and make them yours. It may be as simple as the first 30 minutes after arriving home. You cannot give what you don’t have so spend time refueling yourself by doing things you love and decompressing.”
