Megan Wack
Megan Wack was born and raised in Gulfport, MS and now lives in Biloxi with her husband Cameron Wack and their 15 month old twins. She has a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences with a minor in chemistry and a Masters degree in Healthcare Administration both from the University of Southern Mississippi.
“In 2017 I began my career in Ultrasound in New Orleans, LA and I continued in this career for 6 years and moved back to the coast at the end of 2019. Not long into this career I decided that I wanted to expand my future in healthcare by obtaining my masters degree in healthcare administration.
I graduated in the spring of 2022 just weeks after learning that my husband and I were expecting our first child. In the midst of searching for a new job we learned that we were not only expecting our first child, but actually our first two children as we were surprised to learn that we were in fact having twins! This obviously threw a wrench in my plans for starting a new job as there are a lot of unknowns with a twin pregnancy and I felt guilty taking a permanent job knowing that I would be leaving soon. Since then I have learned not to feel guilty for putting my career aside temporarily for my family because thankfully God had a bigger plan in store for me that I could have never imagined!
In October of 2023, God opened a door with an opportunity for me to purchase the gift shop Rue Ridge Gifts that my aunt had previously owned. Since I was a teenager, I have worked part time at local retail stores through high school, college, and even weekends and holidays between my full time job so I had quite a bit of retail experience but never did I think that I would one day come to own my own store! I am so thankful for the opportunity to take this business over and continue my aunt’s dreams and build a business that I can call my own and provide for my family with. Everyone always asks me what I was thinking or how I manage to juggle running a store and having toddler twins and some days are harder than others but thankfully I have the best support system of family, friends, and even employees that make this dream a reality and I know that God would never present me with a challenge that he knows I can’t handle. Being a business owner is definitely more than a full time job when it comes to hours worked each week but it has also allowed me the flexibility to give my time to my family when they need it that I would have never been able to do in the 24/7 demand of the healthcare field.
Though I may technically work more hours some weeks, each day that I am at the store doesn’t even feel like work and I hope that feeling lasts forever! Sonography is also still a passion of mine and I believe that God put me in that career path to witness to others and for this reason, I still practice sonography part time by working at The Women’s Resource Center in Gulfport, MS. This center provides medical services and information to women and families with unexpected pregnancies.
I am so blessed to be able to provide these women with a first look at their precious babies and turn what may be a scary and uncertain experience into a happy and promising one. Working at this amazing center has been so rewarding and I love that by owning my own business I am able to dedicate time each week to give my time to women and families in need of God’s love and grace.”
When we asked Megan for a piece of advice to share with ya’ll, here’s what she had to say: “The best advice that we were given as new parents was to slow down, enjoy the little moments, and don’t wish time away. While we are still new to the parenting game I think this is some of the best advice I could give other moms. It may sound cliche when we say ‘the days are long but the years are short’ but it couldn’t be more true. Many times when the parenting does inevitably get tough, it is so easy to say ‘I can’t wait for them to be older so that they can do this’. We are guilty of thinking and saying the same thing sometimes but I try to catch myself and remember that we only get to experience our children growing up once. Even though we may have our hands full, I want to make sure that I slow down to enjoy and cherish every single moment that I can with my family so that I can remember it for years to come.”
