Morgan Peters
We are so excited to introduce you to Morgan Peters as our Mom Feature Friday! Morgan wears many hats as a business owner and you may know her from Jack’s Plant and Patio AND Sleepy Bear Food + Drink! Take it away, Morgan! ⬇️ ⬇️
Hey friends! I'm Morgan Peters. My husband, Jeffry, and I met while we were students at Southern Miss, and we’ve been married for 22 wonderful years! Together, we have four amazing kids—three boys and a girl. (Yes, we tried for a girl, and she’s the caboose!) Our oldest, Brayden, is 21 and currently attending Southern Miss. Caleb, our 19-year-old, is at MGCCC. Trace, who’s 15, and Allie, who’s 10, are both at Presbyterian Christian School in Hattiesburg. Having a big family has been such a joy for us. We've always made it a priority to share family dinners, attend church together, stay connected through our family group chat, and cheer each other on—whether it’s at football games, golf tournaments, or piano recitals.
I’m a working mom and business owner. Within the first year of Jeffry and I getting married, we opened Jack’s Home Improvement Center in Wiggins. For nearly 20 years, I was the office manager, taking care of all the accounting and bookwork. In 2021, we expanded and opened Jack’s Plant and Patio, which is truly my passion! We carry everything from plants to grills to outdoor furniture. I love decorating, so having a store filled with unique home and gift items is a dream come true.
Our goal was to create a family-friendly atmosphere and a place where you can find the perfect gift for just about anyone on your list. More recently, we added Sleepy Bear Food + Drink to our lineup of businesses. While I’m not there every day, I’m the creative force behind our drink menus and manage all the social media for all of our businesses. Our kids have been involved in each venture from the start. Whether they’re working in the stores, helping us draw up plans, contributing to social media, or even assisting with photography and buying, it’s truly a family effort!
I grew up in Madison, MS, and met my husband, Jeffry, while we were both attending USM in Hattiesburg. After we got married, we spent a few months living in his hometown of Lucedale before opening our store in Wiggins. Wiggins has been home for us since 2003, and we absolutely love our community and the relationships we’ve built over the years. In addition to running our businesses, I’m also a worship leader at Northwood Church, which has four campuses along the Gulf Coast. One thing I love about living on the Gulf Coast is the seafood! And I always love taking a drive along Highway 90 to see the water—it’s so peaceful!
What is one piece of advice you'd like to share with the moms out there?
One piece of advice I’d give other moms is to prioritize family dinners around the table and have real conversations. I know it’s tough, and you might not make it happen every single night—but start somewhere. Set a goal to have dinner together at least twice this week. In our family, we have dinner together almost every evening, no cell phones allowed. One of our favorite things to do is "highs and lows," where everyone shares a “high” and a “low” from their day or week. It’s something that really brings us together, and I hope it’s a tradition my kids carry on with their own families one day.
